Duramax LML Rebuild: Part 0 - Introduction

Why?

I've told a few guys at work that I plan to rebuild a Duramax for my truck. Every single one came back with:

"Why?"

"Why? You have a nice truck now."

"Why? That seems like a lot of work."

All of these responses make sense. Yes, it is a lot of work, but the road to reaching goals aren't easy. Yes, I do have a nice truck. It has a Ryan's Diesel Service 64mm Turbo, SDP CP3 Conversion with Exergy Pump, PPE Manifolds and Up Pipes, FASS 165 with G&R Sump, and WCFab Piping Kit. It is nice, feels good to stomp that pedal down to the floor, and I am proud that I built it in the driveway with 2 of my best friends.

But, I am deathly afraid of snapping a crank, cracking a piston, or head gasket problems. So, I am trying to get ahead of these known issues. In my mind its not when it if it happens, its when. Sure, maybe I am over thinking this and none of that will ever happen. But I am using this as the excuse to the wife to build a 800hp-1000hp truck...shhh

There is also 1 other reason I am doing this. I enjoy helping people. I know that information can be hard to find sometimes so we seek answers from the guys in Facebook groups, Instagram, and forums that always seem like they know what they are talking about or have a solid reputation.

IN MY EXSPIERENCE, most, but not all, of these guys are just trying to sell parts, get Instagram famous, or have a huge head due to their follower count. They tend to give you a 1 word response, never open their messages, or leave on on read. And I don't like that....

In the past I have had a decent amount of guys DM me asking how to do something after I have made a post of my build. I have found it really enjoyable to help them out. Its almost like I am getting to build a truck over again. I stick it out with them and make sure everything is going smooth and try and help them when they need it.

I really enjoy helping people and seeing them achieve their goals with the truck they own. That's what I aim to do with this Duramax LML Rebuild project. I will try and document as much as I can and do a blog post as detailed as I can on each subject. I don't know how many post their will be, but I suspect it will end up being a novel.

Word: Goal

Definition: the object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result.

What's my goal? My goal is to give back to a community and industry that has brought me so much joy these last 2 years. To help the guy who cant afford an all out motor build up front. The guy whos truck cant be under the knife due to it being his daily driver and need to go to work to feed his family. The guy that take pride in building things with his own to hands. The Hobbyists and the DIYers. A place were 99% of us all visited at some point in time. Something you can sit back and read in the garage on a Friday night with a beer or a Saturday morning with a cup of coffee, and build your dream.
